EcoSchool Alums Grade the School

Commencement Day, 2011

When a group of committed parents came together seven years ago to create an exceptional school for their kids, graduation was the furthest thing from their minds.

But the years have whizzed by. Austin EcoSchool has grown and thrived. And its graduates are now popping up within city’s high schools! The parents, directors and staff at EcoSchool are proud of what we’ve accomplished—and we now have our first opportunity to hear the perspective of the school’s graduates.

Here are two alums’ descriptions of how the EcoSchool experience has served them:

“What I learned from EcoSchool is how to communicate openly with others and not fear school. I learned to manage money and conduct a meeting. I now know how to work on saving the earth and its organisms. I also know the difference between what’s right and wrong, and how to express my creativity in a productive way.” ~Clementina A., age 14

“EcoSchool lets you learn about the world, and when you find something that really interests you, they support you in your quest for more knowledge of the subject, as deep as you want to go. To this day, I am still in love with science and hope to work in the medical industry because of my EcoSchool science teacher.” ~ Ciana S., age 14

Of particular note: each of these former students has gone on to attend a well-regarded college preparatory high school in the Austin area. And each made honor roll in the first quarter of their freshman year. All of which is a wonderful validation of EcoSchool’s educational approach.

Our curriculum is academically rigorous. It’s practical and hands-on. And it honors the potential and individuality of each child. Because our students learn from the inside out, within an intimate, nurturing environment, we believe each is becoming empowered to leave his or her distinctive stamp on the world.

May Fest and Village Mini Fair

Saturday, May 18th, 2 pm

EcoSchools’ annual May Fest is all set to be loads of fun and the Village Mini Fair just always is!

Come make a *Peep (a what?!) and take it for a whirl on the miniature Ferris wheel.
Or, if your Peep is feeling very adventurous, take off on the Bubble Blaster – always a wild ride and a hoot!  Or go the Peep Disco Dance Hall, or the zip line race course, or the Whirling Fan of Doom (sure to big a hit with the hard core thrill seekers!) – or, well, the list just goes on and on….

Perhaps your Peep is a little more low key, more of a shopper than a thrill seeker – well then, take it on the tour of Peep Homes or to the Village Market and see what simply cannot be lived without! Peep hats, shawls and shoes, pets and exotic animals from far and wide, dishes, tools, furnishings and more.

In addition to the Village Mini Fair we have live youth music groups, food, various “green” info stalls and a fun activities for the kids.

* A Peep is a 3″ tall doll with huge ideas, plans and ambitions and they just LOVE the Village Mini Fair, where everything is just their size and they can really “let their hair down”!

Y’all come on down for a rip roarin’ good time!
